History of blogging

Ok, so my teacher, Ms. Baldree, asked us to make a blog.  Our first blog assignment was to find the history of blogging.  This is a few of the items I came up with.  According to Clive Thompson of the New York Magazine, he came up with this convenient timeline (how perfect was that to find).  Anyways, it starts out in January 1994, a Swarthmore student named Justin Hall, created the first blog ever, Links.net.  Then a few years later, in August 1999, Blogger comes out with the first popular free blog-creation service.  In February 2002, Heather Armstrong is fired for discussing her job on her blog (guess you really have to watch what you say, or rather type).  A study done in January 2005, finds that 32 million Americans read blogs (and I was not one of them, go figure).  Since I don't know much about blogging, some of the information was not interesting.  I could have added that in December 1997, online diarist Jorn Barger coins the term "weblog" to "logging the web" and that in April 1999, programmer Peter Merholz shortens "weblog" to "blog" (New York Magazine, 2006).  Wow, so not interesting to me, but I added the information anyways.  I may add a few new posts here and there, and maybe I will let my family and friends know to look at my blog, we'll see what happens.
